[76] Theory vs Practice

Here is a talk we had with A*. An interesting example of theory vs practice.

A* is afraid of opening our website to bad tournament organization and biased organizers. It’s possible of course. But I think that the majority has no interest in that. And I think that because of what I saw in practice.

- Do we let tournament organizers manage issues, and declare team forfeit ?
If yes, we may open our website to bad organized tournaments and biased organizers. This is the difference with our tournament. We have no conflict of interest since we don’t play. Then it’s well organized, fluid, and we have legitimacy to sanction if necessary.

- Today most Discord organizers are not biased. Organizers must be responsible for their event. It’s not in an organizer’s interest to be unfair.
In every tournament Discord server, there is a « Feedbacks » channel where people can tell what was good or bad for organizers to improve.
As a start, it’s great to build an amazing tools for organizers. We will face some fails, and it’s ok if we are prepared. But in the long run, it’s in our interest and organizers’ interest to let them manage their tournament from A to Z.

In a way we delegate responsibility.
It’s a risk to take. It’s not sustainable to have my presence required during every tournament.
I have to slowly disappear, and let people being responsible for their own project.

I’m looking forward to deploying the V2 of the website, where many new admin features will allow organizers to manage their tournament without me.

We are about to reach 500 accounts, and we keep having good feedbacks.
